We believe budgeting shouldn't feel complicated

Back in 2019, we started with a simple idea: help people understand where their money goes without overwhelming them with spreadsheets or confusing financial jargon. Most budgeting advice makes things harder than they need to be.

How we got here

The whole thing started because Marcus was tired of seeing friends struggle with their money. Not because they were reckless—they just didn't have a clear picture. Traditional financial advice was either too basic or way too complex.

We spent our first year just talking to people. What actually makes budgeting hard? Turns out, it's not the math. It's the overwhelm. Too many categories, too much tracking, too much guilt when things don't go perfectly.

So we stripped everything down. Three main spending buckets. Simple check-ins. Real conversations about trade-offs instead of strict rules. And it worked better than we expected.

What matters to us

These aren't just nice words on a website. They're what guide every conversation, every recommendation, and every piece of advice we give.

1 Keep it simple

Budgeting tools shouldn't require a finance degree. If something takes more than five minutes to explain, we're probably overcomplicating it.

Real example: We had a client tracking 23 spending categories. We helped her consolidate to 5. She actually stuck with it for the first time in years.

2 No shame zone

Money decisions are personal. We're not here to judge your coffee habit or lecture about that vacation you booked. We're here to help you understand the trade-offs.

Real example: A couple wanted to keep their weekend dining budget high—so we found savings elsewhere. Your priorities should shape your budget, not the other way around.

3 Progress over perfection

Nobody sticks to their budget 100% of the time. That's fine. We focus on general direction and patterns, not beating yourself up over small variations.

Real example: One client went over budget three months in a row—but saved consistently for six. That's success. The trend matters more than any single month.

4 Honest conversations

We don't sugarcoat things or sell miracle solutions. Sometimes the answer is "you need to earn more" or "that goal needs more time." Honest feedback builds real progress.

Real example: When someone wanted to save for a house in one year with their current income, we showed them the math. They adjusted to a three-year timeline and it actually worked.

The people behind the process

We're a small team—and we like it that way. It means you actually get to work with the people who built this thing, not just someone reading from a script.
